Doro @ Amos' Southend Charlotte, NC 3-2-16

Fresh from the Monsters of Rock Cruise, Doro is doing a short tour of the easternU.S. and there was no where more appropriate for the Metal Queen to make a stop than right here in the Queen City.  Doro is one of the acts that I had never had the chance to experience live  so I was very much looking forward to seeing the show.

From the moment Doro and her band took the stage, it was crystal clear that the evening would be a special one.  As the venue shook with the opening song”Earthshaker Rock,” Doro was working her pure magic on the crowd.  She is all about the fans and made it a point to high five every single person that made their way to the front of the stage that night and even took requests telling the crowd to shout out what they wanted to hear.

The setlist was heavy with songs from her days in Warlock as she belted out classics like “I Rule the Ruins” and”True As Steel.”   Doro’s vocals were on point all night as she gave the crowd all she had.  Her band has been playing together for a long time and had a great chemistry as they laughed and joke and anticipated each other’s moves.  Doro briefly spoke about losing someone too soon and dedicated “Without You” to the memory of her friend Lemmy Kilmister.  Later in the evening,  the band performed a cover of Dio’s “Egypt (The Chains Are On)” which she then dedicated to Ronnie. Drummer Johnny Dee had the chance to show off his skills behind the kit with an extended solo during “Evil” where he pumped the crowd up and included a bit of the KISS tune “I Love It Loud.”  Closing out the set was a rousing version of “All We Are”  with an audience sing a long.

The Doro chants began before she even left the stage and guitarists Luca Princiotta and Bas Maas came out for a dueling guitar solo to kick off the encore. Not only did they show off their technical skills but their true love of performing as they battled and dueled guitar to guitar and hugged it out at the end.  A heartfelt “Love Me In Black” was next and since the audience simply hadn’t had enough “Hellbound” served as the second encore. Everyone on that stage gave 100% and  the result was a performance that really showcased their love for the music.

Doro and her band proved to be a real class act and gave the audience  a night that  they will never forget.  She has been keeping the metal flame burning for over 30 years and has not lost an ounce of her passion and fire.  Long live the Queen!
