Disturbed @ Rapids Theatre, Niagara Falls, NY 4/5/16

April 9, 2016 by Joseph Saccomanno

When Disturbed took the stage at the Rapids Theater last Tuesday night, the packed room exploded.  The much-anticipated, sold out tour became a reality for the legions of fans in the intimate theater.  Hundreds of fists punched the air in unison to the opening number “Ten Thousand Fists.”  A blistering array of new and old music followed,  including “The Game”, “The Vengeful One”, “Prayer”, “Stupify”, “Land of Confusion”, “The Light”, “Inside the Fire”, “Stricken” and “Indestructible.”  For a band that took four years  off from performing, Disturbed was as tight as ever.  Lead singer Dave Draiman belted out lyrics as guitarist Dan Donegan (guitar/electronics) and John Moyer (bass) created a thunderous wall of sound with drummer Mike Wengren pounding out the rhythm on a massive drum set.  The lights dimmed and after a small set change the  haunting “Darkness” from their second album and “Sounds of Silence” showed how Draiman’s voice could go from screamer to subtle sweetness. The talent in this band is immeasurable and Draiman showed range that many other singers would dare not attempt.  The metal thunder went as quiet as a purring kitty. The crowd ate it up, with a not-so-quiet roar of approval.

Closing the set out with a superb cover medley of Nine Inch Nails’ “Closer”, U2’s “Still haven’t Found what I’m Looking For”, The Who’s “Baba O’Rielly”, and Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name,” the crowd was hollering for a few classics and the boys delivered with “Indestructible”, “Voices” and  the mega popular “Down With the Sickness” to wrap up the night. This was a massive showing of musical and performing talent. Disturbed will only get bigger and better. If you missed them this time, they are scheduled to be back at the Darien Lake concert venue on July 24, 2016.
