Zakk Wylde “Book of Shadows II”

Zakk Wylde

After 20 years, Zakk Wylde’s highly anticipated second solo album “Book of Shadows II” is finally here.  Twenty years is a long time between records but the guitar hero hasn’t exactly been taking it easy the whole time.  Zakk’s been busy forging his own hard rock empire with Black Label Society, Wylde Audio, and even a coffee line of his own.   After just one listen, it was easy to determine that “Book of Shadows II” was worth the wait.

The fourteen songs are an intimate collection of music that will serve as food for the soul.  With a laidback southern rock vibe, Zakk takes a contemplative look inside as he reflects on his own life amidst beautiful melodies and stirring solos.  The songs “Autumn Changes” and “Tears of December” will have you reminiscing as you drive down the road or sit among friends on a warm summer evening.  Fans are accustomed to his blistering solos with Black Label Society but here you will find a softer, more emotional side of Wylde although no less powerful as his guitar becomes another voice used to convey his emotions.  The catchy chorus of “Lost Prayer” will have you singing along and you won’t want to miss the poignant guitar of “Darkest Hour.”  Closing out the record is “The King,” an exquisite song that will quite simply move you to tears.

Great music is a form of magic for the body and soul.  It becomes a part of our lives helping us celebrate the good times, comforting us through the bad times, and giving us the courage to simply carry on.  Simply put, “Book of Shadows II” is great music.
