AC/DC will soon lose another band member as bassist Cliff Williams announces that he will retire after their current “Rock or Bust” tour is over. The group had already faced the retirement of rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young who suffers from dementia and the legal issues of drummer Phil Rudd who has been replaced by ex-AC/DC drummer Chris Slade. Most recently, Guns N’ Roses singer Axl Rose has been substituting for frontman Brian Johnson as Johnson is dealing with catastrophic hearing loss issues. Perhaps it was all just too much to take for Williams as that left himself and guitarist Angus Young as the sole remaining members from the “Powerage” era on.
“It’s been what I’ve known for the past 40 years, but after this tour I’m backing off of touring and recording,” Cliff tells Gulfshore Life. “Losing Malcolm, the thing with Phil and now with Brian, it’s a changed animal. I feel in my gut it’s the right thing.”
