Garbage “Strange Little Birds”

Scottish-American altrockers Garbage are back with their sixth studio album “Strange Little Birds.”  The new record is old school ’90s post-grunge alternative rock with crunchy rock riffs and ethereal electronic elements mixed together.

“Sometimes” kicks things off with a great industrial rock feel followed by the lead single, “Empty,” a true alt rock song that is reminiscent of early Garbage.  Lead vocalist Shirley Manson is in top form with her sultry vocals; at times a beautiful scream and at others a sensual  whisper.  The record is dark and moody with introspective lyrics that are a perfect for Manson’s voice.  You can feel the gloom and doom in the air as she whispers “Kill the things we love the most,” over and over in “Even Though Our Love Is Doomed.”  Don’t miss the exquisite keyboard work on the haunting “Night Drive Loneliness.”  The production quality on the album is top notch resulting in a sonic melting pot of guitars, keyboards, and bass, all  driven by the drums of Butch Vig.

With “Strange Little Birds,” Garbage has gone back to what they do best resulting in one of their best albums to date and a must have for your collection.
