Gemini Syndrome “Memento Mori”

The powerhouse alternative metal band Gemini Syndrome has recently released their sophomore album “Memento Mori” via Another Century.  The new record is the second of a planned trilogy and an outstanding follow up to their debut album “Lux.”  The trilogy focuses on the birth/death cycle with “Lux” being about the birth or an awakening and “Memento Mori” focusing on the journey we call life.  The title itself is a Latin phrase that loosely translates as a reminder of mortality and that’s exactly what this album is.

The concept is thought provoking and the music is commanding with the lyrics being very life affirming and positive.  Frontman Aaron Nordstrom’s vocals are dominant with a solid, robust sound and an absolutely huge chorus on the single “Remember We Die.”  The percussive strokes of drummer Brian Steele Medina are off the charts and really drive the whole feel of the record.  Interspersed throughout the album are three interludes, some with spoken word and some strictly instrumental, leading the listener into the various stages of the album as you follow along on this spiritual quest.  “Alive Inside” will make you feel just that and the slower, eloquent “Say Goodnight” is not to be missed.  Closing the record is “Brought To Light,” a truly one of a kind piece with an epic, grand feel to it that wraps things up as we await the next part of this magnificent trilogy.

“Memnto Mori” is not something that you simply listen to but something that you must experience.  Our time on this planet is limited so let “Memento Mori” be just that, a reminder of your own mortality so that you can cherish each and every moment of your transcendent journey.
