According to various news sources, Gregg Allman will be returning to touring earlier than expected after an undisclosed illness forced him to cancel shows.
Allman announced Tuesday that he will play an acoustic set with guitarist Scott Sharrard at the Laid Back Red Rocks festival on September 25th. After being treated at the Mayo Clinic, Allman’s doctors cleared him just a month after the 68-year-old musician had cancelled his shows through mid-October.
“I just can’t wait to get back out there,” Allman said in a statement. “I’ve gotten so stir crazy these last few weeks. I feel best when I’m traveling and playing. That’s what keeps me going, and there’s no better place to start than Red Rocks.”
Allman will play again at Atlanta’s Laid Back festival on Oct. 29, an event he co-founded followed by a residency at New York City’s Winery in November.
