Skillet “Unleashed”

With over 11 million records sold worldwide, the Grammy nominated rock quartetSkillet is one of the most successful bands to come out of the Christian rockscene.  They are back on the attack with their ninth (9th) full length album,”Unleashed.”

For the first time in the band’s history, they worked with mulitple producers on this record.  Brian Howes produced the first half of the album and both Seth Mosley and Kevin Churko lent a hand for the rest.  Kicking things off is thelead single “Feel  Invincible,” a catchy anthem that has already been used by the WWE for their Battleground pay per view and will no doubt be heard throughout sports arenas for many years to come.  Front man John Cooper describes the track as a “fight song” and a “reminder not to give up.”  The album has a lighter feel than some of their earlier work like “Collide” with lots of electronic elements mixed in.  The fast pace of “Out of Hell” will get you moving and the strings of “I Want To Live” are reminiscent of songs from the “Comatose” album.  Slower tracks “Stars” and “Watching for Comets” showcase the passionate side of the band with brilliant keyboards and lush orchestration.  Their signature male/female vocal harmonies are in fine form with drummer Jen Ledger providing a nice contrast to the solid vocals of Cooper.  Seth Morrison and Korey Cooper round things out with some tight guitars.

My only wish is for Skillet to really tear it up and “unleash” those guitars a little bit more.  Otherwise “Unleashed” is another terrific album with topnotch  tunes that combine all the elements Skillet fans have come to expect and that have launched the band to the top.
