When bands are planning to do something unique or special, not everyone can participate or be involved. With the ease of people having recording options at their fingertips due to the invention of smartphones, it makes it very financially feasible to record magical moments. Artists are more aware of this now more than ever. When it was put into motion when Motley Crue would do their last show of course it was where they started almost 35 years to the day (15 days short of that actually) in Los Angeles, California. Playing the Troubadour, Whiskey a Go Go and every other little dark and dingy club throughout the city before it became the powerhouse band the world would know, they wanted to end it where it started. Hence the title for the DVD appropriately called “The End.” The double disc DVD set will be released on Eagle Rock Entertainment this Friday November 4, 2016.
It’s all about the show but besides talking about the amazing camerawork and the production value of the show, I will not be a spoiler on the viewing of that actual show itself for those who hadn’t seen it yet. For the ones who have I will not rehash and waste time talking about it here. Anytime I get a copy of a concert DVD for review I always head right to the bonus footage. It has interviews with each member filmed at Staples. Guitarist Mick Mars, drummer Tommy lee, bassist Nikki Sixx and vocalist Vince Neil answer various questions and each give their unique perspective on them. As Vince would say in one of the interviews conducted on the bonus material, “We just wanted to headline at the Whiskey, then we thought we made it, then how about headlining the Civic Centre, then we did that. We just wanted to be the biggest band in LA.” Well, they became one of the biggest bands in the world and going out the way they did is very commendable. They didn’t stay too late or leave too early. I think just about everyone around the world for about 2 years had their chance to see the band live before they decided to end it on New Year’s Eve December 31, 2015. The emotions of each member came out as they talked about the final show and the shows in LA. Lee expressed his excitement for playing Rio de Janiero for the first time ever. Both Sixx and Lee talk about the evolution of the flamethrower and how the rollercoaster came about respectively.
Like I said before, if you weren’t there the emotions of the fans before and during the show takes you to it that night. You can almost feel the energy along with both happiness and sadness while watching and knowing this will be the last time you will ever see all 4 play together under the name Motley Crue. It’s all right here for your viewing pleasure and at any time. The band did it right and ended on the note they wanted to, a high one. Well done guys!
