Frontiers Records has a real knack for putting musicians together in new and exciting projects. So when Trixter guitairst Steve Brown got a phone call offering him the opportunity to make an album with longtime friend and Danger, Danger vocalist Ted Poley, he jumped at the chance and Tokyo Motor Fist was born. Along with Steve and Ted, the band features Greg Smith (Ted Nugent, Rainbow, Alice Cooper) on bass guitar and Chuck Burgi (Rainbow, Blue Oyster Cult, Joe Lynn Turner) on drums.
Their self-titled debut album is about to drop and fans of melodic hard rock should stand up and take note. The new record features 11 monstrous songs with outstanding riffs, larger than life choruses, and huge melodic hooks. Kicking things off is the upbeat anthem to surviving heartbreak “Pickin’ Up The Pieces” and it’s clear early on that you’re listening to something special. Poley is at the top of his game and sounds better than ever with soaring vocals throughout the record. Brown’s guitar work puts him in a class of his own with masterful melodic solos perfectly placed within each tune. Check out his solo in “You’re My Revolution” to hear what I’m talking about. Steve also handled all the production and engineering duties for the record, resulting in a cohesive sound that really fits well with the feel good vibe of the songs. “Love” takes us on a slower ride and don’t miss the laid back feel of “Black and Blue.” “You’re My Revolution” provides a harder edge with the aforementioned killer guitar solo and “Fallin’ Apart” should be a real audience favorite.
“Tokyo Motor Fist” is a true masterpiece of melodic rock and deserving of a spot in every rock fan’s collection.
