The latest release from Enuff Z’Nuff “Clowns Lounge” is a wonderful collection of rarities and early demos reworked and re-recorded by the band. The songs were originally written in 1988-1989 by former vocalist Donnie Vie and Chip Z’Nuff. Vie left the band in 2013 due to health reasons and his disillusionment with the music business but has given his blessing to the new record with Chip taking over lead vocal duties.
Enuff Z’Nuff has always tended toward the pop side of rock and this record is a shining example of what a great rock/pop band can do. The songs are very well done with great melodies and huge hooks. The first single “Dog On A Bone” has a great little riff and is easy to sing along to and “Back In Time” has a great pop rock feel to it. Chip’s vocals are a great match for these tunes and the musicianship is top notch. Don’t miss the harder, edgy feel to “She Makes It Harder” and “Round and Round” or the anthemic power of the stadium rocker “One More Hit.” Another oustanding track is the slow burn of “Devil of Shakespeare” which features guest appearances by the late Janie Lane of Warrant as well as James Young of Styx.
“Clowns Lounge” is a fun and nicely done record that will give fans a chance to hear some previously unreleased material that is definitely worth a listen.
