Australian alternative rockers Atlas Genius made a recent stop in Charlotte playing to a near capacity crowd at The Underground. The band consisting of brothers Keith Jeffery on lead vocals and lead guitar and Michael Jeffery on drums is out touring in support of their latest song “63 Days.” They have sparked an entire social movement with their “63 Days of Love” campaign. The movement began as a love letter in the form of a song when the band realized that the sentiments could be much more widescale. “63 Days of Love” is encouraging people to spread kindness and compassion by lending a helping hand to those in need; connecting with family, friends, and even strangers; and getting involved with charitable organizations. Just like the ending of the video for “63 Days,” the Jeffery brothers are asking people to connect with others with a Soul Stare. On this special night in Charlotte, those fans lucky enough to attend the show were treated to a terrific live set that indeed spread the love.
Michael Jeffery was first to hit the dimly lit stage with his drumkit center stage on top of a riser followed by their touring band and finally Keith took his position at centerstage guitar in hand. The vibe was low key with blue lights around the perimeter of the drum riser and the amplifiers as Atlas Genius kicked off the evening with “The City We Grow.” The intensity grew during “Stockholm” and “Animals” but really hit a new level with “Trojans.” Michael was fierce behind the kit all evening long as he drove the pace while Keith let the band through hit after hit. A moment was taken before new song “63 Days” to explain what #63DaysOfLove was all about. It was an amazing moment as most of the audience was already familiar with the tune and sang along. Announcing they were going back in time a bit, the room exploded as things got going with “Back Seat.” Keith was really active during the set standing on the barricades and singing to the audience and taking a giant leap off the drum riser. The band closed out their regular set with two tracks off their 2013 release “When It Was Now.” After a brief break, Atlas Genius came out to rock the crowd with a rousing cover of Dead or Alive’s “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) followed by “The Stone Mill” and the final song of the evening “Molecules.”
It was a fantastic night of music in the Queen City as Atlas Genius left it all on the stage at The Underground filling the crowd with hope, love, and many musical memories. Be sure to check them out when they stop at a city near you.
