In 2006, Pantera and Damageplan fans got their first inside look into the life of guitar icon Dimebag Darrell with the release of “Dimevision Vol. 1:That’s The Fun I Have.” It’s been a long time coming but Metal Blade Records has recently released the follow up DVD “Dimevision, Vol.2:Roll With It or Get Rolled Over.” The new DVD is meant to be a celebration of Dime and how he lived his life.
Dime’s longtime girlfriend Rita Haney collaborated with close friend and official videographer Daryl “Bobby Tongs” Amberger to pour through countless hours of video footage looking for the exact right moments for the project. They wanted this DVD to be a positive, life affirming one which stays true to what Dime had originally wanted for Dimevision. Of course there are the usual moments of whiskey, fireworks, and guitars. This is Dimevision after all but there are also amusing sequences involving such things as a sleep apnea study and even an encounter with the girl scouts. It’s clear from the footage that everyone in Dime’s life had a lot of love for him and he in turn had a lot of love for them. As a bonus, the collection includes five unreleased demos complete with lyrics, dates, and Dime’s personal thought on the tunes. These were just songs that he did on his time off but are a great addition that fans will love to hear. From the country stomp of “Twisted” to the full throttle guitar of “Let’s Go,” it’s just fantastic to hear Dime in his element.
“Dimevision, Vol.2” is another great release for not only fans of Dimebag Darrell but fans of great guitar work as well. With so much video footage still untouched, we can hopefully look forward to many more Dimevision installments in the years to come.
