I Like It @ Ethyl's, NY, NY 2-13-18

Every night NYC has something exciting an interspersing to offer. Last Tuesday night was no exception. One of the coolest joints in town hosted one of the coolest bands in town in Like It. The band has recently made some headway opening for Bret Michaels and Winger on separate occasions. How would you describe the band? They take a little bit of influence of the NYC bands that preceded them (The Velvet Underground, The New York Dolls and KISS) and use that formula to make it their own.  The band consists of  Mike Lincoln on drums, Dave Messinger on bass, Jamie Ross on vocals and rhythm guitar and John Ostronomy on lead guitar.

In between the DJ stylings of Tommy James, the band took the stage at 8:30pm and played a strong hour set that consisted mostly of their own original material and a KISS cover. Tongue and cheek lyrics in songs like “Doin’ It” and Mommy (LSD is A-Ok)”  backed by a steady rhythm section in Messinger and Lincoln allows Ross and Ostronomy to do to be their thing.  Ross was very charismatic and Ostronomy’s tasty guitar licks won over the intimate crowd.

During their track “Super Japanese,” a Japanese woman danced along with the band while fanning them and played along to their moves. The bands edgiest song was “Like It.” It describes the band to a “T” and  encompasses what the bands truly is; a feel good & fun loving band with interesting lyrical content.

Do yourself a favor when looking for something intertwining and different in the live music scene in NYC. Check when Like It is playing next and go check them out. You won’t be disappointed!
