Jimmy Eat World @The Fillmore Charlotte, NC 7-12-18

The millennial generation was out in force at The Fillmore this past Thursday evening as alternative rockers Jimmy Eat World made a stop in Charlotte on their “Integrity Blues” summer tour.  The American rock band  really made a splash on the pop punk scene with their 2001 release “Bleed American” which landed them a chart topping hit single with “The Middle” forever securing their place in the hearts of those that group in the early 2000’s.

At nine p.m. sharp, Jimmy Eat World took the stage playing a twenty five song set that gave the near capacity crowd a little bit of everything from their expansive catalog.  The stage set up was simple with Zach Lind’s drum kit tucked in the back corner of the stage atop a riser with touring keyboardist Robin Vining opposite him.  Frontman Jim Adkins was center stage behind the mic with his guitar as the band kicked things off with “Sure and Certain” off their “Integrity Blues” album.  This was my first time seeing Jimmy Eat World live and their sound was pure and crisp.  Adkins voice was on point from the punchy rockers to the more poignant emotional tunes.  The audience was fairly laid back allowing time to get lost in the music and the moment which was refreshing to see.  Adkins kept the chit chat to a minimum but did take time to acknowledge the album that really got things going for the band, “Bleed American” and explained how the band changed the name to a self-titled album after the tragedy of 9/11.  The band has recently released two new songs “Love Never” and “Half Heart” to wet the appetites of those who have been waiting for a new Jimmy Eat World album.  The band sounded tight and precise with drummer Zach Lind and bassist Rick Burch driving the pace along with rhythm guitarist Tom Linton.  The band closed out an exceptional evening of music with the title track from “Bleed American” with the audience on their feet screaming for me.  After a short break, the band obliged the fans for a three song encore wrapping things up with their biggest hit to date “The Middle.”

With exceptional songwriting and outstanding musicianship, Jimmy Eat World gave the crowd an evening they would never forget.  Be sure to check them out as they have upcoming dates in the USA and Canada through mid September. Then in January next year they go to Europe so try to see them if you can. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!
