Bridging continents, decades and audiences, iconic vocalist ENGELBERT HUMPERDINCK has joined forces with internationally-acclaimed Irish singer/songwriter JANET DEVLIN for a heartfelt and dazzling duet of the classic “Can’t Help Falling In Love.”  Taken from Engelbert’s recently released EP Sentiments (OK!Good Records), the original was famously recorded by Elvis Presley for the 1961 film Blue Hawaii.

Accompanying the release of the single is the performance video which premieres today, December 4, 2020, on YouTube. Filmed during the height of the pandemic, Engelbert filmed from the studio in Los Angeles while Janet did the same from London, UK. Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lS1o5Kp6-IU

A fan favorite and finalist on UK’s X Factor (2011), Janet sang this song during the competition as a tribute to her grandfather (it was his favorite song) who had passed away the week of her performance.  Engelbert, who was friends with Elvis, caught the TV performance and was blown away. Before they’d ever met, the unlikely pair had an invisible bond. Three years ago, Janet attended Engelbert’s show at the Royal Court Theatre and, backstage, the two were finally introduced. Discussing their shared love of the song led to a plan this year to perform it together, in May, at Engelbert’s planned show at London’s Palladium.

Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the concert was canceled and the two vowed to record their version of the classic remotely. The result is a striking version beautifully blending Janet’s spectral, soulful vocals with Engelbert’s rich baritone. For the King of Love Ballads, as his fans have dubbed him for decades, the song is an affirmation of his feelings for the love of his life, his wife Patricia, and the sense of loss of communication he deals with every day as a result of her affliction with Alzheimer’s disease.

“I have always adored ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’ by my good friend Elvis when he recorded it almost 60 years ago,” says Engelbert. “This year when the opportunity arrived to record it as a duet with the incredible Janet Devlin I was intrigued as there is about the same age difference between us as to when it was first performed by Elvis and his leading lady in Blue Hawaii.

“Janet and I have performed it not as a love song, but as a loving tribute to people very near and dear to our hearts. I am dedicating it to my wife of 54 years, Patricia. Janet is dedicating it to her grandfather Michael. Together, we have created a new version which we believe packs an emotional punch with its hopeful message of love… especially in these difficult times.”

This song holds so much emotion for me which spans nearly a decade,” says Janet who released both her album Confessional and book My Confessional in 2020. “Performing it with Engelbert on stage would have been the icing on the cake, so you can imagine how disappointed we were when that couldn’t happen. But when I heard that we might be able to record it together, albeit remotely, I jumped at the chance! It might seem unconventional but the pairing really works, we were able to alternate and sing the lines that mean the most to us and of course, he’s an utter legend which made the experience all the more amazing!”

Released on November 20, 2020, Sentiments collects six new recordings by Engelbert including covers of Elton John (“Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me”), Bob Dylan (“Forever Young”), Charlie Chaplin (“Smile“), and the aforementioned Elvis Presley (“Can’t Help Falling In Love”). Engelbert adds a fourth spin on the classic “What Am I Living For” which was turned into hits by Chuck Willis, Conway Twitty and Percy Sledge. Previously released on a Germany-only album in 1988, “One World” gets a modern makeover with a brand new arrangement to help bring solace and calm to a divided and volatile world with its message about the importance of unity and togetherness.

In addition to the release of his EP, Engelbert will be presenting his very first Christmas special which will be livestreamed on Looped on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 12:00pm PT / 3:00pm ET. To be filmed from his home in California, this exclusive and uniquely intimate livestream event will include performances of a selection of favorite holiday classics and new Christmas songs. This exclusive online private concert can be watched and enjoyed worldwide from your computer’s web browser, or by using the Looped mobile app on your tablet and cellphone, or screencast to your smart TV. The “King of Romance”, as Engelbert is lovingly nicknamed by his legion of fans, recently celebrated 50 years in showbiz. With his most recent albums The Man I Want to Be (2017) and Warmest Christmas Wishes (2018) and last year’s Reflections EP Engelbert has shown another side of his talent by picking more introspective songs that connect with his life’s experience proving his continuing relevance with today’s audiences.
