“I had several goals with making a Christmas special,” Stirling recently explained to Forbes.com. “One was that I knew this Christmas was gonna be really hard for a lot of people and I wanted to have some way to cheer up my fans, my little corner of the internet….I [also] needed something to pour my heart into. It’s really hard as an artist when you feel you have nothing to create.” She added, “There is nothing like a live performance, that feeling you get, the energy. You cannot capture that on film no matter what you do. So, I didn’t try to do a live show. I decided I would really lean into the medium I had, which is film. And I had the ability to curate it so that you’re making it this experience that is seen through something that is this big screen. That creates a very different type of energy…I got to go back into all these old ideas that were shut down on previous tours. All kinds of things that aren’t possible in the live show we did [for this]. And it makes so that this is something you could never see unless you were viewing it in this way. It makes it really special, it’s different than just a live show. And I think people are going to be quite shocked at some of the things we do. I did something I’ve never done before in the show, and again, this is something that I don’t think I could ever do on the tour. I spent two and a half months learning the art of hair hanging, which is where you actually learn how to braid your hair in a certain way so that you hang from it like an aerial artist. But instead of harnesses and straps, you’re hanging by your hair…I wanted to make this something unlike anything they’ve ever seen before. No one in the world has ever done that, played a violin and hung by their hair.”
“Lindsey Stirling: Home for the Holidays” has already been hailed “a burst of warmth in a cold season and at an incredibly bittersweet time” by Popdust and a “masterpiece” and “fantastical experience” by mxdwn. The latter adding, “this stream was very different from most virtual concert experiences. It was vulnerable, it was personal, and it felt like a movie created specifically for fans to enjoy. Whether viewers celebrate Christmas or not, there was something for everyone to enjoy with this display of compassion and kindness that was brought to the screen. Lindsey Stirling brought a kind and energizing performance to her fans and gave them hope. Hope goes a long way these days, and it was clear the fans’ spirits were lifted.”
Stirling released her first-ever holiday album Warmer In The Winter in 2017 via Lindseystomp/Concord Records, marking the #1 new Christmas album of the year.
