One of the new Christmas shows out there is the Lindsey Stirling Christmas show. Stirling is a world renown violinist. She is also adding dancing and aerialist to her resume as well. This is my first time taking in the show so I didn’t know what to expect. The hour and half show had a little bit of everything.
The show started promptly at 8pm with Stirling playing her trusty violin and accompanied by a bevy of dancers to one of the most popular Christmas songs of all time, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas.” She may not be know for her voice, but she sang a few tunes including the 2nd song of the set in “Christmas Come On” and later on with “Santa Baby.” I must say she really nailed both both and it would be nice to see her take more of an active role in singing. During one part, her band members (referred to as Ryan -drummer and Drew-guitar and keyboards) joined her playing 1/6th scale instruments. Stirling even showed her talent by playing a snippet of the fan favorite, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” on her smallish violin. The guys played a small keyboard and drum set to go along with her in her mini toy set medley. She took a moment to talk about her dad and the signs after one’s passing. She talked about how the sign was a hummingbird for her. She also talked about how he championed her to become the woman she is today. She stated the first song she ever learned was “Sleigh Ride.” You can just hear the emotion come out during the playing of this song. In the last few years, Stirling has incorporated aerials into her show. She not only has others doing them, she also participates in doing them just as much. It shows you how much she wants to diversify her show. The talent and work it takes to become good enough it to try for a live audience takes a lot of work and true dedication. She even played the violin at times while doing some of these. During a few set change overs, she had her dog Miss Luna come out in a Christmas Dress. She then walked with another staffer across the stage dancing for treats. The other times she had an gentleman named Eric Jackson, who dressed as a Christmas Tree as he did a few things also to make the audience laugh.
Stirling’s Christmas show just started a few years ago and it has really caught on. The show was almost a sell out. You can see how much the fans really appreciate her talents. Not only that, but she is truly endearing and very appreciate of her audience. She even came out to thank them as there was a serious windstorm that was going on during the day before the show was to take place. I have always said that Stirling is one of the most energetic performers you will ever see live. She is even adding singing and becoming a true aerialist to her repertoire. Who knows what else she can conquer if she tried?
