Finally, legendary horror punk guitarist Doyle was able to make his way to Buffalo. You probably know him for being one of the founding members of the band The Misfits. His solo tour was originally put on hold due to the pandemic. Buffalo, was the 4th show scheduled for the band. A hearty crowd braved the cold on a Tuesday night to witness this legendary musician in action. Accompanying Doyle were: Alex Story on vocals, Wade Murph on drums and Brandon Strait on bass.
Taking the stage at around 9:15pm, the energy was felt from the start as the band played the 2013 self titled “Abominator.” You can tell Doyle was all business as he primarily focus on his playing and the songs as he made almost no eye or physical contact with the audience. Now, vocalist Alex Story was a different tune. He came out with a mask on for the first 3 tracks. After disregarding it, someone asked for the band to play a love song to which he replied, “shut your dirty mouth you whore.” That drew a lot of laughs form the crowd. The intensity that Story showed all night was very apparent throughout the set. His powerful vocals shined on tracks like “Witchcraft” and “Love Like Murder.” While Story was leading the way with his vocal presence, it was both Murph and Strait holding down the fort on the backend.
Not many musicians can hold a candle to Doyle’s physique, as he is a proponent for the vegan lifestyle. You be hard-pressed to find a ounce of fat on him. As the Misfits are on hiatus, you should check out Doyle’s solo band as he continues to bludgeon his way across the United States.
