Thursday night the Fillmore turned into an indie rock paradise as The CAMINO Tour rolled into Charlotte bringing us the one and only The Band CAMINO who are out in support of their 2021 self-titled debut album along with support from up and comers flor and Hastings. The sold-out show was the event of he week with fans clamoring in excitement outside the venue awaiting doors to open.
The action got started early as Nashville based singer-songwriter Hastings started off the evening with an incredible set of pop-rock gems. The song may have been “Heart’s Not In It” but the sentiment couldn’t be further from the truth as the crowd was eager to hear what Hastings had to offer. Before you could blink an eye, the crowd was singing along as Hastings sang, danced, and jammed on his guitar, a perfect beginning to the show.
Indie rockers flor were up next and wow is all I can say. Led by lead vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist Zach Grace, flor came out ready to party and show everyone a great time. Sporting a pair of white, heart-shaped sunglasses, Zach was singing and dancing all while commanding the keyboard or lighting up the guitar and sometimes both. The band sounded tight with McKinley Kitts on guitar, Dylan Bauld on bass, and Kyle Hill on drums as they ran through songs old and new. They were definitely “dancing around” and the energy level was so off the charts, we couldn’t help but “Play Along.” flor is definitely a band to put on your must-see list. They have great songs that make you want to get up off your feet and are an absolute blast on the stage.
Of course, the main event of the evening was still to come and the atmosphere was getting more and more amped up before it was finally time for The Band CAMINO to make their presence known. The stage was set up with a keyboard on both sides with drummer Garrison Burgess’s kit on a platform at the rear of the stage. The band made their way out amidst a frenzied light show as the first notes of “Know It All” began and the crowd was jumping and singing along right away. Jeffery Jordan took his spot behind his keyboard as the dove into “Roses” and he and band mate Spencer Stewart would trade off on vocal duties, guitar, and keyboard all night long. Jordan was also wearing a pair of heart-shaped glasses as he spun, jumped, and danced all over the stage. It was clear that their fan base is very strong as everyone seemed to know the words to every song, singing in unison with the band. The whole set mesmerizing and I just couldn’t take my eyes off the stage. There were the electrifying rockers and the poignant softer songs to change things up a bit but no matter what The Band CAMINO does it with their own style that reflects their personalities and those of their fans. Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the pink cowboy hats that even Jeffery Jordan put on as he clamored to the barricade to connect up close to the adoring fans in the front. Their set was heavy with tunes from the newest record but included a wide variety that spanned their young career with even a few covers throw into the mix for good measure. Towards the end of the set, you can usually look around and see fans making their way to the exits to beat the crowd and the post-show traffic, but not tonight. It was wall to wall people until the very last moment of “Daphne Blue.”
Fans left the venue happier albeit a little sweatier than they were before, ready to relish the memories of the magical night they just experienced.
