As summer has ended and the concert swing is usually on the downward trajectory, don’t fret as there is a concert pick me up for you. A triple bill of rock that includes Alice Cooper, Judas Priest and Corrosion of Conformity has just started to make its way around the US and Canada. There was a stop in Burgettstown, PA (outside of Pittsburgh) this past Wednesday night that we were lucky to take in. This is the first time since 1991, that both Judas Priest and Alice Cooper have joined forces to tour together. With it being a co-headlining tour, both Cooper and Priest have been alternating headlining slots. For this show, it was Alice Cooper’s turn to close the show.
First up was sludge rockers Corrosion of Conformity. Led by original members Woody Weatherman (lead guitar) and Pepper Keenan (rhythm guitar), the band gave a very energetic 30 minute set. A few of the choice cuts were “Diablo Blvd,” “Wiseblood” and maybe their most recognizable song in “Clean My Wounds.” Even though the band had a few changes in their lineup and haven’t put out new music since 2018’s ‘No Cross No Crown’ album, there were a good portion of the crowd that arrived early enough to not miss their 30 minute opening slot. Corrosion of Conformity can still bring it in a live setting and were a terrific choice to open things up.
Next up were Judas Priest. I can’t believe it has been 7 years since I seen the band live. I was really looking forward to their set. They started off with “All Guns Blazing” off their 1990 ‘Painkiller’ album. They stayed with the ‘Painkiller’ album and dished out “Hell Patrol.” The band threw a curveball and played what many consider the bands biggest hit in “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin.’ Vocalist Rob Halford is considered to have one of the best voices not only in rock/metal, but in any genre of music. Hitting those incredible high notes in “Night Crawler,” showed that he is still on top of his game. For “Giants in the Sky,” this was a tribute to the rockers we lost and especially the recent passing of Ozzy Osbourne. Chants led by Halford of “Ozzy” at the end of the song continued to reign. Of course, what is a Priest show without Halford riding his Harley on stage for “Hell Bent for Leather.” They closed the set with their other big hit in “Living After Midnight.” What a great set by Priest and more importantly, it was good to see guitarist Richie Faulkner back and doing well after his aortic aneurysm that he had back in 2021.
Closing the festivities was Alice Cooper. Most artists of his ilk are able to tour on their back catalog and are happy doing so. Not Alice Cooper. Cooper continues to not rest on his laurels as another solo album was released back in 2023 called ‘Road.’ Cooper also continues to not only release new music but switches up his setlist to incorporate some new things in his show to keep things fresh. This particular show was a good representation of that as some songs were brought that haven’t been played in quite a while. Cooper went back to his highly successful ‘Trash’ album to dig out “Spark in the Dark” (which hasn’t been played since 1991) and “House of Fire” (sparingly played since 1991). Longtime Cooper fans were overjoyed to see “Caught in Dream’ added in as it also hasn’t seen the light of day much since it was released back in 1971 (Muscle of Love album). My biggest takeaway from the Cooper set is how they really had to speed up the theatrics some as they were running on a tight schedule. Yes, the guillotine was still there as it was mixed into with “Brutal Planet.” A whopping 20 songs were stuffed into an 1 hour and 15 minutes set. That precision and delivery of the songs showed the true musicianship and professionalism the band brings day in and day out.
Overall, to me, this was the best package of music I have seen in 2025. This was win win for all fans of classic rock and metal. You had a little bit of everything with each act brining a little something different to the table. All acts sounded terrific and for this particular fan, I can honestly say it was easily one of my favorite shows of 2025.
