A double bill of country music took to the CMAC stage in Canandaigua, NY this past Saturday night. Country superstar Zach Top and up and comer Wyatt McCubbin played to a warm Finger Lakes crowd. This tour is dubbed the ‘Cold Beer & Country tour,’ and it just started a few days prior in Toronto, Ontario. Usually the earlier shows in any tour the artists are still working the kinks out. There is a revolving door of artists who are opening up for Top on this tour. The fans at CMAC were lucky to see McCubbin on the bill for this particular show.
You may not recognize the name Wyatt McCubbin but you defiantly know him. McCubbin has been writing hit songs for artists like Luke Combs, Lainey Wilson and Riley Green to name a few. On July 17th he just released his latest single called “Andy Griffith.” He is working on his upcoming release and played a lot of what may be on that record in concert for the Finger Lakes fans. His 10 song 50-minute set went extremely well. He played a new single that will be released on August 21st called “All Outta You.” He dedicated “Boy in the Boat to his son and “Fly Baby Fly” to his daughter (who he joked is probably running around here running this place I’m sure). I personally liked McCubbin’s powerful yet conversational tone on his voice, which you don’t hear much in country music anymore. Wyatt’s wife Holly provided lush harmonies throughout the set. All in all, a solid set by an upcomer that is destined for big things in his future!
Zach Top is a fast-rising star in the country music scene as well. Top has played CMAC a few times opening up for other artists. This is the 1st time he has headlined the venue. Hot off winning his first Grammy, Top played to a crowd that knew almost every word he sang, and every note he strummed. Starting the night off with “Sounds Like the Radio,” he never looked back from there. His 6-piece backing band joined him for a few numbers at the edge of the stage including “Guitar.” Like McCubbin, he also has new song coming out on August 21st called “Good Girls and Cowboys.” He played the song and it got a lot of positive feedback judging by the crowd’s reaction. It was only the 4th time he performed the song live. The band happened to be set back further back on the stage than usual. Top apologized to the fans saying they are not usually set up like that. Some rain came down over halfway through the set but it didn’t damper anyone’s spirits. One of the things that surprised me was how proficient Top was on the acoustic guitar. He was a master and at times took lead guitar on acoustic. It showed his true talent on the 6 string. Top closed his set with “Things to Do,” as he and his band came to the edge of the stage. Top was strumming and smiling all the way through.
Between these two artists, they definitely delivered the goods and made it one of the more entertaining shows of 2026 summer concert season so far.
