Bryan Adams has released his brand new album How’s It Goin’, a critically acclaimed collection of songs written as a musical love letter to his homeland Canada. The album is out now via BAD Records, available to purchase and stream here.
Rooted in the people, places, landscapes and stories that have shaped the country, How’s It Goin’ sees Adams turn his songwriting and voice towards home. Drawing on Celtic folk, country and rock, the album explores a distinctly Canadian and Acadian musical landscape.
Among the album’s 13 tracks is the anthemic “51st State”, which has already been met with nightly standing ovations around the world. The album also features “The Ballad Of Terry Fox”, a tribute to heroic humanitarianism that appears in the soundtrack of the new documentary Run Terry Run. Another standout is “Lake Ontario”, which opens with a reference to one of North America’s Great Lakes before delivering a wry retort to those seeking to rename it. Through its lyrics, the song offers a pointed reflection on how distraction has become a form of currency in today’s world.
Through further songs including “Highway 16”, “The Bridge”, “When Canada Joined Newfoundland” and more, Adams maps the country’s vast landscapes, celebrates its citizens and the treasured characters throughout history. It basks in the humor, the resilience and the stories which make it the country that it is. It is Adams looking back at the place that helped shape him while discovering new ways to tell its stories.
How’s It Goin’ is available now on CD and LP, with the LP housed in a gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves, obi and shrink wrap. A special A4 hardback book edition is also available, featuring the album on CD, song lyrics and images connected to the stories and subjects explored across the record. The physical album features 12 songs and has also been released digitally with “Lake Ontario” as the bonus track.
