NAMED ONE OF FUELED BY RAMEN’S GREAT
Eleven legit bangers filled with anthemic choruses, psychedelic experimentation and hooky melodies all polished to a sheen.” –MARVIN “…blends emotive pop punk with the contagious elements of hyperpop. However unpredictable their next album may be, it’s bound to be as epic as its predecessors.” –ALTERNATIVE PRESS “PUNK POP’S NEW PHENOMENON” –VMAN “Indeed, this is very weird shit. But it rules.” –KERRANG! (April 14, 2023) – LOS ANGELES, CA – Waterparks unveiled their much-anticipated fifth full-length studio album, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, today on Fueled By Ramen. On the new record, the pop-rock stalwarts prove they might just be the biggest band of tomorrow. To understand why, you have to go back to the beginning. Their 2011 formation cemented the union of three distinct personalities. Raised somewhere in between the iPod generation and the first wave of social media – Awsten Knight [vocals, guitar], Otto Wood [drums], and Geoff Wigington [guitar] – occupy a diverse, yet unified creative crossroads. With influences running the gamut of Linkin Park, Every Time I Die, and Balance & Composure, to Donald Glover, One Direction, and Ke$ha, the trio move forward with a blatant disregard for the rules. Comprised of an eclectic batch of infectious, dynamic anthems, there’s something for everyone on the new record. As always, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY is meant for the people comprising this greater movement—like everything Waterparks do. Stream/download the new album HERE. “While I saw our last LP Greatest Hits as a dark indoor album, I see this body of work as a light outdoor album,” frontman Awsten Knight commented. “There’s a bright vibe with very high energy to it. So much of what we do is about how it’s going to be experienced by the community. When you listen to us, I just want you to feel good. It’s bouncy shit. Even if it’s aggressive, it’s enthusiastic. There’s a lot of energy behind this album. I try to make music that tingles people’s fucking brains, which is what my favorite music does for me,” he added. Waterparks’ magnetic pull has attracted a growing cohort of devoted fans who pack sold out shows, stream their songs like hell, and have even elevated the group to multiple Billboard charts as they’ve headlined the Sad Summer Festival and accompanied My Chemical Romance on a sold out arena tour last year. With INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, the three-piece step into an elevated sound and enhanced aesthetic that builds upon their half a billion career streams, widespread touring success, and major festival appearances at Reading & Leeds, Slam Dunk, among others. In support of the release, Waterparks will embark on a massive North American headline run at the end of this month. The “PROPERTY TOUR” commences on Friday, April 28 in Anaheim, CA, and is already completely SOLD OUT in 20 major cities including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Nashville, Philadelphia, Boston, and more. Due to popular demand, second shows in Chicago and LA were added. Additionally, the trio will head to Vegas in the fall to play When We Were Young festival in October.
