Christian pop artist Lauren Daigle made her first stop to the WNY area this past Friday when she graced the stage at Artpark. She is dubbing this the ‘Kaleidoscope tour.’ The former two time Grammy award winner was backed by a 12 piece band that included 3 horn players and 3 backup vocalists. She is on tour in support of her self titled 4th studio effort. This is the first album she is attempting to cross over to incorporate a more mainstream pop sound.
She took the stage around 8:40pm to what you can call a huge colorful crochet backdrop. She was all smiles and did a lot of waving and embracing the crowd before they went into “Still Rolling Stones.” In between some songs, Daigle told a few stories. She raved about her trip to Niagara Falls. She said she thought it was everything she thought it would be and then some. After the story about visiting the falls, the band went into the emotional “Thank God I Do.” This song brought people to tears as the song has such a deep meaning and connection to people’s beliefs to their higher power. There is another new record coming out in September Daigle stated. She played a brand new song from it called “You’re All I’ll Take With Me.” This song probably reflects the rest of the record and the new direction she is taking. It definitely has a more pop element to it. The next song wasn’t even on her setlist. She did an interview with our former staffer Thom Jennings (who now works for the Niagara Gazette) and Thom told her that his favorite song is St. Ferdinand.” So she said she loves the song and couldn’t pass up a chance to honor that request. She finished the set strong with tracks form her new disc as 3 out of 4 songs including “Kaleidoscope Jesus” came off her self titled LP.
The encores included her biggest hits to date in “Be Okay” and “You Say.” Daigle’s voice sounded strong as ever as she delivered a fun and sold performance that the 4500 in attendance walked away lifted and inspired I’m sure.
