Austin Richard Post, better known as Post Malone, is currently on the “If Y’All Weren’t Here, “I’d Be Crying” tour. The stop at Darien Lake was the 7th show of the tour. Malone is getting ready to release his 5th studio album titled ‘Austin’ on July 28th. So, you can say the juices were flowing and the excitement was building from the sold out crowd ready to witness its’ neighbor (Post Malone was originally from the Syracuse, NY area) take the stage.
Post Malone was scheduled to take the stage at 9pm, but the house lights went dark at 9pm as his band members walked on one by one. Chants of “Posty,” “Posty,” “Posty” luminated the air. There were a lot of pyro and some fireworks throughout the set. It started right way during the opener “Better Now.” What became a theme for the night was when Malone spoke to the crowd, he got emotional as he took the love of the crowd in. You can truly see he appreciated them for coming. His energy stayed consistent throughout the night as he not only went through tracks from his first 4 albums but added some fresh tracks too. He played 4 new tracks including “Mourning” and “Enough is Enough.” The tracks sounded like traditional hip hop. I though the highlight of the night is when he handed an acoustic guitar especially when he did a what he called an MTV Unplugged set. You can see the talent shine through on the 4 tracks he did during this segment of the show. It started with “Feeling Whitney” and ended with “I Fall Apart.” I really liked his voice during these songs and the feel he gave to them. The cool beat of “Circles” was another highlight. He ended the show was an exciting new tune called “Chemicals.”
This was the first time that Post Malone traveled with a full band (which also included 3 people on strings). He stated throughout how amazing hey were and paid them respect throughout. Malone has come along way since his first appearance at Darien Lake back in May of 2018. He is known as one of the biggest artists in music. He showed why he has that moniker as he gave it all to the sold-out crowd at Darien Lake this past Monday night. That’s all you can ask from an artist. That they would lay it all out on the line when taking the stage. Superstardom hasn’t fazed Malone as he put on an over the top performance.
