On “What This Could Be,” Jonas showcases yet another side of his ever-evolving solo artistry. Dreamy guitar echoes over a soft beat accented by shimmering keys, as cinematic strings uplift an emotionally charged chorus while he sings, “I’d give up my piece of mind to lose my mind again with you.” The dynamics of his vocals mirror the ebb and flow of the soundscape as he steps into new sonic territory.
The song is accompanied by an official visualizer video inspired by the online camera roll trend surrounding “What This Could Be” and featuring videos and photos from Jonas’ personal collection—watch HERE.
The track lands in the wake of his buzzing single “Work It Out,” which has earned widespread critical acclaim since its release this summer. Billboard proclaimed, “Joe Jonas sounds as refreshed on ‘Work It Out’ as Jonas Brothers did on their comeback single ‘Sucker,’ addressing his issues with anxiety and intrusive thoughts over some kicky pop production for late-summer streaming.” UPROXX praised how “The song works to uplift himself and listeners,” and EUPHORIA raved “Joe Jonas’ triumphant return to the solo scene is exactly what fans have been waiting for…a track that’s both relatable and an absolute bop.” Rolling Stone applauded, “Joe Jonas looks at life ‘from a birds-eye view’ on [his] solo single.” He co-wrote the empowering anthem with collaborators Jason Evigan, Victoria Evigan, Blush, and Kane Ritchotte, and it was produced by Jason Evigan and Kane Ritchotte.
Stay tuned for more to come from Joe Jonas soon.
