The original lineup of KISS has been selected to receive the Kennedy Center Honors in a ceremony December 8.
The announcement was made Wednesday afternoon in a news conference by President Trump, who praised the cofounders — Peter Criss, Ace Frehley, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley — as “one of the greatest rock bands of all time.”
“Kiss became a global phenomenon, sold more than 100 million records worldwide and produced 30 gold albums and lots of other things they produced, they made a fortune,” the President added.
Criss, Frehley, Simmons and Stanley have reportedly agreed to accept the award and attend the ceremony.
The President added that the band was planning “something very special.”
The Kennedy Center honors are designed to recognize individuals who have made a significant contribution to American culture through the performing arts. Other nominees this year include George Strait, Sylvester Stallone, Michael Crawford and Gloria Gaynor.
