Bring Me the Horizon @ The Fillmore, Charlotte, North Carolina Friday, October 2, 2015

Heavy rain and the threat of massive flooding did not stop a sold out crowd from heading out to the Fillmore this past Friday for Bring Me The Horizon’s “That’s The Spirit” tour. Led by frontman Oli Sykes, the boys from Sheffield brought their “A” game as they rocked the capacity crowd with an extraordinary live show. Their set was visually stunning with a stage setup usually reserved for larger venues. With a huge LED screen at the back of the stage that changed lyrics and visuals throughout the night, a great light show that constantly moved and changed colors, and liberal use of shooting fog, it was a sight to behold. Unfortunately, you will have to take my word on this as photo passes were not issued for this particular show for some reason.

The band kicked off the show with two songs off their newest album “Doomed” and “Happy Song” with everyone jumping and getting the crowd pumped up early on. The band sounded solid throughout the night but make no mistake about it, this was Oli’s show. He was clearly in command as he led Bring Me The Horizon through hit after hit. A highlight of the night happened midway through the song “Chelsea Smile” where Sykes told the crowd over and over to “sit the f*ck down,” getting the crowd to quiet down and get down until the entire floor of the venue erupted at his command to jump. Fans were having a great time sharing vocal duties with Oli and crowd surfing to their favorite tunes. The set closed out in true rock and roll fashion with a sea of middle fingers in the air as Bring Me The Horizon whipped everyone into a frenzy with “Antivist.”

After a few minutes, the screams of “We love you Oli” began in earnest and the band took the stage for a three song encore which started with the audience singing along to “True Friends” before Oli asked the audience to get up on a mate’s shoulders so he could see everyone before launching into “Blessed With a Curse.” The evening ended in high fashion with a brilliant version of “Drown” complete with the audience taking over the vocals, elaborate fog shooting up and confetti spewing out over the audience. As the band exited for the night, the LED screen changed to the band’s new umbrella logo as the lights went down on stage. Bring Me The Horizon far exceeeded my expectations as they peformed like seasoned rock veterans and gave the crowd a fantastic night of rock and roll. Put this show on your must see list now!
