All That Remains ‘The Order of Things’

Massachusetts metalcore giants All That Remains have released their latest studio album via Razor & Tie, “The Order of Things.” The band’s sound has evolved over the last decade from a heavy metalcore onslaught on their earlier albums like “This Darkened Heart” to a more melodic metal sound as seen in their 2012 release “A War You Cannot Win.” This latest album continues with a more melodic approach.

The lead single, “This Probably Won’t End Well,” opens things up with a piano opening and is a solid rock radio track. Things take a heavier turn with Phil Labonte’s growling screams on “No Knack” and solid guitars on “Divide” but quickly return to radio friendly tunes like the ballad “For You.” There are some really great moments on this album, especially from guitarist Oli Herbert. Don’t miss the guitars on the breakdown midway through “Bite My Tongue.” The songwriting is very well done with more hooks and solid choruses than ever before and the addition of female clean vocals are featured in the arrangements. The production by Josh Wilbur (Lamb of God, Hatebreed) is excellent.

“The Order of Things” is a solid hard rock album from All That Remains. If you enjoyed their last record, you’ll love this one but if you were looking for a return to their earlier sound you’ll be disappointed.
