For the last few tours, Ringo Starr & His All Star Band have invited press before the first show to get up close & personal. This year’s event took place in Syracuse at the brand new venue called the Lakeview Amphitheater. This venue replaced the old grandstand located on the fairgrounds. It is set on the other side from where the fairgrounds are and again being brand new some of the kinks are still currently being worked out. When we arrived no one really had any idea as to where the media were to meet. After a bit we ended up at the main gate by will call for our escort. The reason I’m mentioning this is because we weren’t the only ones that had problems navigating the property. While we were waiting for other media to show, a black sedan with tinted windows pulled up at will call needing directions to the backstage area. After it started to pull away, you can see a shadow of a person in the backseat give the peace sign and it turned out to be none other than Ringo himself. It turned out we all needed a little direction on where to go.
Let’s fast forward to the press conference. After a soundcheck, we were escorted down to the amphitheater where about 30 media took photos and got to see the band play a short medley of songs including “Roseanna,” “Evil Ways” and lastly “A Little Help from My Friends.” After this occurred which totaled a little over 5 minutes, the band posed for photos then took questions from various media outlets. The current lineup Ringo has been touring with has been together almost 5 years now.
