Peter Frampton @ Avalon Ballroom (Inside the Fallsview Casino) Niagara Falls, Ontario 6-16-16

This past Thursday night, the ever talented guitar wizard Peter Frampton brought his North American tour to the Avalon Ballroom in Niagara Falls, Canada. Frampton played a hit-laden set that showcased his iconic playing style and ability.  Playing to a packed house, Frampton proved that despite having slightly less hair than he had in the twentieth century, his guitar prowess has not gone anywhere.

Prior to the show commencing, a special announcement on the loudspeaker asked the audience to only take photos and videos during the first three songs and then to please put them away so everyone can enjoy the show in the moment.

This drew a big cheer from the audience as anticipation grew and the excitement became much louder.  The show master proceeded to take to the stage to announce the arrival of Frampton. Opening with the crowd pleasing “Something’s Happening”, Frampton channeled the energy that made “Frampton Comes Alive” the platinum album that it is. The audience was moving and clapping to the music all night.

The set featured a few covers including David Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel” and a Framptonized version of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” complete with melting guitar solos and the iconic Frampton Talk Box. The highlights were plentiful throughout the night as Frampton played the songs that made him a household name in the 70’s. Frampton’s classic “Show Me the Way” felt so personal as he sang the lines “I wonder if I’m dreaming”  and “I can’t believe this is happening” which are thoughts that many in the audience were having.

Frampton, being the influential performer that he is, attracts other equally talented musicians. Songs such as “Do You Feel Like We Do” gave keyboardist Rob Arthur the opportunity to demonstrate his masterful playing.  During “(I’ll Give You) Money”, Adam Lester and Frampton came center stage to exchange guitar solos for an extended version of the number.

Overall, Peter Frampton is not only a world class performer but also a class act. Beginning his career nearly a half century ago with Humble Pie, Frampton has remained humble after all these years.  Always smiling, Frampton gives everything he can for his fans and even was courteous enough to sign a few autographs at the end of his show. Frampton truly is a generational talent who’s playing and charm make it impossible not to love his way.  Be sure not to miss him the next time he is performing near you.
