If you’re not familiar with the music of Nashville Pussy, you are missing out on one hell of a band and one hell of a good time. Nashville Pussy has been pumping out good old fashioned, sleazy barroom rock with raucous and often humorous lyrics since their debut album, “Let Them Eat Pussy” and even earned a Grammy nomination in the late nineties for best metal performance. Their latest album, “Up The Dosage,” is the best effort yet for these American rockers and is pure rock and roll adrenaline from start to finish.
The core of the band is lead vocalist and guitarist Blaine Cartwright and his wife, lead guitarist Ruyter Suys. With the help of Shinedown producer Rick Beato who remixed the album, they have come up with a raw rock and roll sound with a bit of polish to even things out. From the opening notes of “Everybody’s Fault But Mine,” you are instantly pulled in for the ride but you better buckle up because the driving Motorhead like riff of “Rub It To Death” is about to take off at lightning speed. There are a few surprises thrown in as well with the very cool boogie stomp of “Before The Drugs Wear Off” and the country rock of “Hooray For Cocaine, Hooray For Tennessee” complete with mandolin and dobro. Another great track is “White and Loud” which has a unique Tony Iommi type of riff but played in a more upbeat way instead of gloom and doom. Throughout the record, the band performs like a well oiled machine never missing a beat and the raw vocals of Cartwright give it just the right amount of abrasiveness to keep things real.
“Up The Dosage” is a true diamond in the rough and an album you won’t want to miss. In the words of the band, “No matter what you say, pussy’s here to stay!” Nashville Pussy that is!
