The December tour consisting of Raw Fabrics, Crobot and headliner Chevelle stormed the Rapids theater on Tuesday. Each band had their own unique sound and performance, all engaging the audience in a different way.
The young band Raw Fabrics took the stage at 7:30. They’ve just recently put out an EP titled “Gold Handcuffs.” They are a power trio from Los Angeles, California. They performed seven (7) fast paced and energy driven songs. They had a simple stage set up but they made the most of what they had. The lead singer took a big tom drum and went into the crowd and made a drum circle to wind them up.
Long, wild hair and a wild stage presence suits Crobot’s performance. Crazy high notes and stern guitars made the audience have to notice them on stage. Hair and guitar flips emphasized the rock and roll atmosphere. They were dressed in attire such as bell bottoms and vests. Crobot had so much energy that it was infectious. They kept you interested and engaged, even if you didn’t know their songs. Crobot performed as if they were headlining a world tour at a huge arena.
Chevelle is known for a huge light production and that is exactly what was delivered. The stage had elevated drums and a smoky backdrop. The rock trio set the unbelievable atmosphere in their dark outfits. The audience transformed into something else as soon as Chevelle hit the stage. The crowd was trying to mosh but were stopped by guards so instead began jumping around erratically and screaming the words to the songs. Pete announced that the guitar tech and the drummer’s birthdays were that day and approaching. Even concert goers who were not die hard fans of Chevelle were questioning why they’re not die hard fans yet with the way that their fans were enjoying Chevelle’s performance.
It was a diverse evening at the Rapids. Three unique bands and sounds, yet they are all classified under the rock genre.
