If you’re a fan of fierce metal, check out the latest U.D.O release, “Live In Sofia,” featuring the iconic German metal vocalist Udo Dirkschneider. The set contains two CDs with either a dvd or blu-ray combo pack and was recorded live in Bulgaria on their Rev-Raptor tour. The sound quality is superior and yet not overdone as it still captures the raw energy and powerful feel of their live set.
Things kick off in high gear with U.D.O. heavyweights like “Rev-Raptor,” “Dominator,” and “Thunderball.” This is definitely not music for the weak or faint of heart with ripping guitars and thundering bass lines. Accept fans can also rejoice as Udo’s unmistakable growl takes them through the classics “Screaming for a Love-Bite,” “Metal Heart,” and Accept’s infamous “Balls to the Wall.” The collection also includes a solo by drummer Francesco Jovino and over eleven minutes of crazy during Stefan Kaufmann’s exquisite guitar solo. Since Kaufmann has recently left the band due to health issues, the solo is all the more special as it may have been his last tour ever.
“Live In Sofia” is a true showcase for the power, energy, and brutality of metal. If you have a “Metal Heart,” you’re going to want to check this one out.
