About a year into the “Future Nostalgia” tour, The Sheepdogs are getting to wrap up this leg of it and what a way to start to close the tour out with a show in Buffalo? The queen city has been home to big supporters of the band and show wasn’t lost on the fans. Halfway through the show guitarist/vocalist Ewan Currie talked about their first show at the Ballroom in 2012 and stated that this crowd felt more special and felt a connection to them. This band is different from that 2012 version as it now, including Jimmy Bowskill on lead guitar who took the place of Leot Hanson.
The one hour and 50 minute set consisted of a bevy of songs off of “Future Nostalgia” from the previous Juno Award winners. Eight songs in, all were played off of the current disc and the crowd ate it up. The band incorporated a tambourine, steel guitar and even a trombone. Shamus Currie came from behind the Hammond Organ to incorporate the trombone in the song “Help Us All” while brother Ewan took his spot behind the Hammond. Bowskill played the steel guitar on the tracks “I Don’t Get By” and “Plastic Man.”
The band passed around Seagrams 7 before diving onto the tune “Downtown.” Ewan Currie was solid with his vocals all night and said very little between the songs. He let the music speak to the fans and by the way they danced and moved to the music all night, I think The Sheepdogs accomplished what they set out to do.
