Mike Tramp has set off on a solo acoustic tour across the US this spring. Tramp is best known for fronting the band White Lion and also Freak of Nature. With just an acoustic guitar, Tramp is stripped down and what you see is what you get with his set.
The Danish frontman played 16 songs that spanned throughout his entire career. His basic focus was the White Lion tunes that really put his name on the map. Opening up with track “Little Fighter,” that really grabbed the attention of the audience from the get go. The quirky Tramp joked about how Walmart wasn’t the place where you should be shopping for music, “So feel free to grab any music you like at the merch table after the show,” he said.
There isn’t room for error when it’s just you and an acoustic guitar. You can’t hide behind screeching guitars or loud amplifiers. I must say, Tramp delivered on such classics like “ Tell Me” and White Lion’s biggest hit “When the Children Cry.” “Wait” was arranged very differently, and I’m not sure if I like it or not, so I won’t rush to judgment here until I hear it a few more times performed that way. Tramp closed the set with one of my favorite covers ever in Golden Earring’s “Radar Love.”
When Tramp was finished he remarked that he isn’t a has been and this is his life. He went on to thank those in attendance for coming out and supporting artists like him, who are still playing live music. A very heartwarming remark from Tramp, and I’m sure the people who came out to see him thought so too.
