Jackyl @ Tremont Music Hall, Charlotte, North Carolina 4-20-12

The southern metal sound of Jackyl arrived in Charlotte, NC this past weekend as they played to a small, but very enthusiastic, crowd at the Tremont Music Hall. Sticking with their motto, “If it feels good, do it,” Jackyl came prepared for everyone to have a great time.

The rowdy crowd exploded as Jesse James Dupree and company took the stage, opening with “Mental Masturbation.” Jesse is a seasoned veteran and knows how to interact with the audience, quickly whipping them into a frenzy. His son, Nigel Dupree, joined the band onstage for “Locked and Loaded,” which included the added chorus of the Rolling Stones’ “It’s Only Rock and Roll.” Next up were the drinking songs as the band members passed around a bottle and launched into “Secret of the Bottle.”

The band sounded tight as they fed off the energy of the appreciative crowd. Jeff Worley was adding in some great solo work on the guitar and Chris Worley and Roman Glick provided a steady beat as they ripped through hits “I Stand Alone” and “Dirty Little Mind.” They ended their regular set with “Redneck Punk,” which appealed to the southern audience and brought about chants of “Redneck, redneck!” until Jackyl returned to the stage.

The encore included a raucous, sing-a-long version of “She Loves My Cock” followed by Jesse bringing out his infamous chainsaw for “The Lumberjack.” Wood chips began to fly as Dupree sawed a wooden barstool into pieces, handing them out to the eager audience. The dynamic live show was capped off with a mic stand shotgun salute. It was a great way to end a great night of rowdy rock and roll.
