Steven Page, who is currently in the midst of filming a TV show called “The Illegal Eater” for the Travel Channel, did a one off show for the Thursday at Canalside Concert series in downtown Buffalo, NY. The show will debut this fall and he is filming all over the United Sates and in Canada. So, the question is, did Page keep his musical chops up while on the road filming?
Page and his bandmates blasted through a wide array of songs spanning Pages entire career. Page changed between acoustic and electric guitars on every track. He even played the banjo on A “Different Sort of Solitude” and sang acapella on the Barnaked Ladies hit “It’s All Been Done.” Page surrounded himself with a bevy of capable players that helped him navigate through a diverse set list.
Page, who has played the WNY area numerous times over the years as a solo artist and with his former band, remarked on how the air didn’t smell the Cheerios today (General Mills cereal plant is located close by). He also said he had a flashback when the band finished “Call and Answer” as he looked across the street at the First Niagara Arena and said he remembered when his old band played there and closed with the same song.
While Page’s fans are hungry for new music, it was nice to see that Page hasn’t lost anything musically. In the meantime, they will have to dine on Page’s TV show.
