Industrial metal icons Fear Factory made a stop at The Rapids Theatre in Niagara Falls, NY, on their current The Industrialist tour. Having been churning out albums since 1989, they’ve gathered a following that represents every age group.
Frontman Burton C. Bell and guitarist Dino Cazares are original members, with Bell being the only one with the band since day one. Even though bass player Matt DeVries, and drummer Mike Heller are recent additions, the four piece band looked and sounded like they had performed together for years. With their only prop being a Fear Factory backdrop, the onus was on the foursome to deliver the show.
Opening with their latest single “The Industrialist,” Bell got the crowd up and jumping right away. It was apparent from the onset that the band was as tight and precise as it ever has been. Bell took a moment to interact with his fans stating that although they had never been to Niagara Falls, with the reception that they had received they would be sure to return. At which point Bell looked out in the crowd and said, “I can’t hear what you’re saying, man.” After an apparent hand gesture, Bell responded “I see you. That’s what I’m talking about!” He chuckled and shouted “Fuck you, too!”
As they ripped through their 16 song set, with hardly any interruption, a mosh pit had formed. Many of the fans were taking part in it one way or another. With so many albums over the years, their setlist contained a little bit of everything, much to the delight of the fans.
Fear Factory relies on their performance in a live setting, there are no fancy lights, props, or pyro during their performance. What you get are four great performers, playing technical metal music, as tight and precise as you possibly could. For anyone who appreciates the skill, and talent it takes to pull this off, Fear Factory is a show that is not to be missed.
