With Big Wreck’s latest CD “Albatross” officially released in the US earlier this year, Canadian rockers Big Wreck are tackling more dates to the south of their homeland. One of the dates was here in Buffalo, NY last Friday night. A warm reception greeted the band as they took the stage at 10:10pm. The band consists of Ian Thornley on rhythm guitar and vocals, Paulo Neta on lead guitar, Brian Doherty on lead guitar, Dave McMillian on bass and Brad Park on drums.
The band opened up the set with the first track off their 2001 release “The Pleasure and the Greed” called “Inhale.” The track “Wolves” was a highlight as the band showcased their fluidity as a unit and proved that the band is back in a big way. Thornley had a little trouble with his foot pedal and referenced it as a “Bieber” at one point. His tech was out in no time to fix the issue as the band went into “Control.” The hour and half set also contained the big hits like “Blown Wide Open” and “That Song.”
It seems the band took cue from its leader Thornley throughout the show. They watched him and then went off of that. He kept in tune by switching guitars after every song. Neta and Doherty alternated leads as well.
The band will get some serious recognition by playing one of the biggest rock festivals in America in May at the Rock on the Range Festival in Columbus, Ohio. This could be a great outlet for the band to show the rest of America just what the border cities like Buffalo get to see on a regular basis.
