Making what seems to have become an annual visit to WNY, Black Veil Brides played to a sold out crowd at Club Infinity, this past Wednesday night. Taking the stage after their “Exordium,” or intro, the predominantly female audience screamed as they filed out.
The first thing I noticed when the lights came up, was the lack of makeup. All the black markings that typically covered their faces, and upper bodies is gone. That being the case, they haven’t lost their identity, and perhaps the abscence of makeup will expand their fan base, and get them taken a little more seriously for their music.
Front man Andy Biersack took control of the crowd with the onset of “I Am Bulletproof,” and kept them entranced throughout the evening. Almost every single fan had a fist in the air the entire show. Although he was battling what appeared to be a sore throat, he delivered song after song to his feverish fans. Throughout the performance, he went from one end of the stage to the other, crouching down and reaching out to the girls who got the best spots in the house.
One of the night’s highlights was their cover of Bill Idol’s “Rebel Yell.” I’m not sure many of the fans in attendance knew how big a staple that song was for our generation, but BVB does a great job with it, and they just may make it one for them as well.
The guys seem to have a lot of fun on stage, and this current line up looks to have great chemistry to boot. From guitarists Jinxx & Pitts “battling” each other, to bassist Ashley Purdey & Biersack singing together, they all gel nicely together. They even all get their shots in on drummer Christian “C.C.” Coma, who basically has nowhere to hide and take it all in stride.
When they left the stage after their last song, the crowd began to chant for their return. Moments later when they emerged, the screams were ear piercing. Even with the aforementioned throat issues, Biersack powered his way through the encore of “In The End.”
BVB has become a force to be reckoned with in the metal scene. With their commanding stage pesence, and powerful melodic music, they’ll be churning out hits, and filling venues for years to come.
