Papa Roach has consistently been churning out infectious hard rock anthems since 2000’s “Infest” put them on the map. Their latest release and 9th full length album “Crooked Teeth” continues that trend with some great old school Papa Roach with a fresh, modern feel.
From the volatile opening track “Break The Fall” the record is off to the races with hard hitting riffs courtesy of guitarist Jerry Horton and driving rhythms from bassist Tobin Esperance and drummer Tony Palermo. Musically the band is solid as a rock and firing on all cylinders as they plow through the title track, a great arena rock anthem with an infectious chorus and killer breakdown. Frontman Jacoby Shaddix is in top form with his signature vocals walking the fine line between rap and rock and melding the two genres into one with some hard hitting raps on “My Medication” and poignant moments on the ballad “Periscope” which features a female lead from Skylar Grey. Lyrically Shaddix delves into some heavy territory touching on his personal struggles in the catchy single “Help” and the issues of PTSD, war and the disintegration of the American dream on “American Dreams.” Machine Gun Kelly makes a guest appearance on the hip hop/rock of “Sunrise Trailer Park” before the record takes a heavier turn decimating the listener with the all out assault of “Traumatic.” “None of the Above” closes out the album in true old school Proach fashion taking us back to their roots.
“Crooked Teeth” is sure to please fans both old and new as Papa Roach delivers the goods once again.
