For those that say rock is dead or that new music simply isn’t good, I have one thing to say to them; Ded. The Phoenix based metal band is aggressive as hell and in your face with some fantastic songs on their full length debut “Mis-An-thrope.” Everything on this record screams “up yours” from the title of the record to their break out hit “Anti-Everything” and nothing is more metal than that.
Opening things up is “Architect,” a tune that is wild and out of control and perfect with a great riff from guitarist David Ludlow. As frontman Joe Cotela screams to the listener “When I say go, no control,” you will have to fight the urge to go kick
some serious ass as your blood will be pumping and the adrenaline flowing. “Anti-Everything” is a true metal anthem with a solid, melodic chorus and fists pumping in the air. The band is a great mix of heavy metal and nu-metal and the nu-metal influence comes to the forefront on the very KORN like “Dead To Me” and “Disassociate.” The hostility continues with the punishing rhythm section of drummer Matt Reinhard and bassist Kyle Koelsch on “FMFY” and “I Exist.”
An unlikely ballad “Beautiful” closes out the record showing that Cotela can handle things vocally whether he’s shrieking out uncleans or belting out melodic leads.
Ded is hands down the best thing to hit the metal scene in a very long time. Go channel your anger and pent up aggressions and check out “Mis-An-thrope” today.
