Originally hailing from the Greek island of Crete, Barb Wire Dolls are one of the hottest punk rock bands to hit the scene in recent years. After moving to Los Angeles, the band was discovered by the late, great Lemmy Kilmister himself and signed to Motorhead Music. The last few months have been busy for the Barb Wire Dolls with stand out live sets on the Vans Warped Tour and the recent release of
their third album “Rub My Mind.”
The Dolls are a great mix of in your face seventies punk and sludgy nineties grunge with a boundless energy that really carries through in a live setting. “Rub My Mind” is a diverse collection of tunes from the bubbly lead single “Back In The USSA” to the anthemic rock of “We Are Champions.” Angry, crunching riffs are provided by lead guitarist and former pro surfer and skateboarder Pyn Doll while the beautiful Isis Queen lends her powerhouse vocals most notably on the old school punk attack of “Contract” and the muddy grunge of “Fade Away.” Produced by Jay Baumgardner of Evanescence and Bush fame, the album has a great cohesiveness while keeping true to the distinct styles of songs. With the ferocious rhythms of drummer Krash Doll, bassist Iriel Blaque and rhythm guitarist Remmington, The Barb Wire Dolls are solid and gritty. For a change of pace, a few slower songs close out the album with “Fire To Burn” and the ethereal, otherworldy “Waiting To Be Lost.”
