Canadian power metal band Kobra and the Lotus has recently released their fifth studio album “Prevail II” via Napalm Records. The new record is a sequel to last year’s “Prevail I” with eleven brand new tracks of melodic metal and plenty of symphonic undertones.
Led by female vocalist Kobra Paige, “Prevail II” is full of electrifying guitars and majestic vocal performances. The heavy rocker “Losing My Humanity” kicks things off with punishing rhythms from bassist Brad Kennedy and drummer Marcus Lee. Paige’s vocals are outstanding whether belting it out on the soaring melodic rock anthem “Let Me Love You” or giving an emotionally charged performance with the plaintive vocals of “White Water.” “Ribe” is an acoustic interlude that has a surprising folk metal sound while “Fallen Empire” has a very Queensryche “Empire” era feel with a little prog metal mixed in. The fevered intensity of guitarists Jasio Kulakowski and Ronny Gutierrez is in full force with the frenzied metal mayhem of “You’re Insane,” a blistering heavy metal tune. Another surprise inclusion is a power metal version of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain,” a magical cover that is quite simply amazing. A bonus track reveals an acoustic version of “Let Me Love You” that is as compelling and captivating as the original.
“Prevail II” is the perfect combination of beauty and power and a welcome addition to the Kobra and the Lotus catalog.
