They say good things come to those who wait. Well, I guess I would have to agree. We have been waiting over five (5) years to give our readers an interview with the Goo Goo Dolls. Due to weather and a few unforeseen circumstances, our previously scheduled interviews had to be postponed. After the Goo’s shot a video for their single “So Alive” off of their new disc “Boxes,” BackstageAxxess was invited to do an exclusive interview. At the time of the interview, we did not announce where we were as it was a secret location. Now, since Johnny Rzeznik went on record in a recent Radio Station promo for Star 102.5 in Buffalo, we can say here that the video was shot at the Central Terminal in Buffalo, NY.
Being from Buffalo, NY, as well, it was cool to talk to two guys that are considered local heroes. Both do an insane amount of giveback to the area. Robby Takac holds an annual music festival in Buffalo called Music Is Art (scheduled for September 10th this year). There was so much to talk about but, since the guys spent all day shooting the video, our time was limited so we really wanted to focus on talking about “Boxes.”
We talked about the creative process behind the album and why now the time was right for the GooGoo Dolls to release “Boxes.” We talked about their collaboration with Echosmith’s Sydney Sierota on the track “Flood.” Since this is my first time interviewing both Johnny and Robby at the same time, I had to talk about the first time I saw them perform. Watch their reaction to this question as it sure did bring back memories for the guys and lots of laughs all around.
