Incubus @ Canalside Buffalo, NY 8-6-9

One of the first shows that was announced for the 2019 Canalside season was the band Incubus. Their was a buzz about the show for a long time now. This past Tuesday, the band from Calabasas, CA finally made their appearance. led by their intense and emotional front man Brandon Boyd.  Besides Boyd, Incubus also includes Mike Eizinger on lead guitar, Chris Kilmore on the turntables and keyboards, Ben Kenny on bass and Jose Pasillas on drums. The band is currently out on a 20 year celebration tour from their 1999 landmark album “Make Yourself.”

The band opened up their set from the first cut off of “Make Yourself” with “Privledge.” Right from the start you can tell the band was ready to go. They didn’t say too much in between the tracks. They let the music do most of the talking. A few tunes later “Megalomanic” really whipped the crowd into a frenzy and Boyd didn’t let them go for the rest of the performance. Boyd even pounded on a bass drum that were set up for him before the song started to build the blood and energy for it. Boyd used a shaker at the start of “Pardon Me.” This tour wasn’t about just playing a few tunes off of “Make Me,” it was really a synopsis of the entire career that the band has built for themselves.  Incubus has 8 studio albums and played “No Fun” off of that release. Things got more intense as Boyd took his shirt off towards the end of the set as the band cranked out “Sick sad Little World” and “Stellar.” They ended their set with possibly their most well known track in “Wish You Were Here.” The and also sued some background imaging as a video screen appeared for “Pardon Me” and was used on an doff for the rest of the set.

It may have been a no frills set as you don’t get a lot of movement from the guys on stage outside of Boyd, the band delivers a solid set of music and gave the fans a show that was well worth the wait!
