A Flock of Seagulls @ Riviera Theater North Tonawanda, NY 6-14-23

New wave band A Flock of Seagulls made their way through the WNY area this past Wednesday night.  Another band that originally hails from Liverpool, England, A Flock of Seagulls still continue to be led by original vocalist and keyboardist Mike Score. He was accompanied by Pando on bass, Kevin Rankin on drums and Gord Deppe on lead guitar.

The 1 hour and 15 minute set focused on various tracks through their first 5 studio records. Score focused on the songs and Pando was the one communicating with the crowd throughout the set. Score told the story of how his mom once said to him the more you live, the more you l and thought it was a great song title. Score played the guitar on “Man Made.”  Flashing green lights were all about on the song ‘Telecommunication.”  The band saved its best for last as the 3 most well known tracks were played including the last song “I Ran” which seemed to bring everyone out of their seats for.  The band had a few other songs “Messages” and “Traveller” that were on the setlist but didn’t return for the encore. Not sure what happened with that? h

The band is best known for hits like “I Ran” and “Space Age Love Song” along with some crazy hairstyles along the way.  Fast forward 40 plus years and a lot has changed, the crazy clothes and hairstyles are long gone. The band members have changed numerous times but Score continues to chug ahead with various lineups. Even as Score doesn’t plan on doing a full reunion of the classic early 80’s lineup at this time, that lineup did record 2 albums with 2 different orchestras over the last few years. So who knows what tomorrow would bring but for those holding out hopes to see the original flock take flight once again, you may get your wish.
