When compiling a list of the top 10 drummers on the planet, Dream Theaters Mike Portnoy has to be at the top of that list. He is, without a doubt, one of the most complete and influential drummers in music. Mike took time out of his hectic schedule to talk to Backstageaxxess.com before a rare club show the band recently performed in Buffalo, NY.
We talked about the creation of their latest effort Black Clouds and Silver Linings, including the heartfelt track The Best of Times that was written about his Dad who was dying at the time. We also chatted about his role in Avenged Sevenfold and how long he will be with the band on their upcoming tour. He also shed some light on the future of Dream Theater.
